Erase.....Let's Padam 'Padam'

UPDATE: 1528hrs 16th June 2008
Raja Petra Kamaruddin has been asked to 'surrender' himself at the Police Disctrict Headquarters (IPD Pudu) by 10.00am tomorrow on the 17th of June 2008. He was not told why he will be arrested, or neither was he told where and what they are going to charge him for.
This has just been confirmed by RPK's wife. It looks likely that the Ops Padam has already begun, since Saturday last.
People, let the show begin!
Below is the official press statement from the office of DSAI.
This afternoon at 1:05 PM Anwar Ibrahim, former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, was arrested outside of his home in Kuala Lumpur. He was due to issue a statement at IPK KL (Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters) at 2:00 PM based on an agreement reached with the police on Tuesday.

Anwar Ibrahim was returning from the Anti Corruption Agency to his home after giving a statement pertaining to the police report that has been filed regarding suppression of material facts in the case involving him in 1998. He was accompanied by his senior legal team, staff, and security.

As he entered the neighborhood of his home, a contingent of ten police cars, half unmarked and half patrol, forced the two cars in Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage to stop. There was a contingent of 20 balaklava-clad masked commandos (UTK) who accosted him, reminiscent of the forces sent to arrest Anwar Ibrahim at his home in September 1998.

An officer approached Anwar Ibrahim and demanded that he accompany the police in an unmarked vehicle to the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters. His lawyers were not permitted to travel with him to the police station.

This arrest has taken place less than fifteen hours after Anwar Ibrahim appeared live on Malaysian television for the first time since 1998, and announced to millions of viewers his intention to stand for election, and upon the formation of a new government, to lower the domestic price of fuel by 50 sen. The overwhelming majority of Malaysians expressed their support of his televised statement.

These events are deeply disturbing to us and indicate that this entire episode is a repeat of the actions taken against Anwar Ibrahim in 1998. During the last few weeks the government owned mainstream media has demonized and vilified him. His staff has been harassed and we see a conspiracy being hatched to thwart the political change that is imminent in Malaysia.

Under no circumstances will the people of Malaysia and the international community tolerate any harm coming to Anwar Ibrahim. We remind Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi of the promise he made to ensure Anwar Ibrahim’s protection.

We have been able to communicate with Anwar Ibrahim, who calls upon his supporters and the people of Malaysia to remain calm and to reject any attempts at provocation, which will give a pretext for an emergency situation to be declared.

Over the weekend, the Police mounted as many as 12 road blocks in and around Kuala Lumpur which resulted in the traffic jams that left motorist fuming. The reason, as now we have been told was that Anwar Ibrahim and his supporters had apparently posted that a rally will be held near Parliament to protest (whatever for, we were not told).
Some months ago, in fact, some time ago, some alpha bloggers had mentioned the name 'Ops Padam' in light of the following and reach that these bloggers had attracted. Bloggers like RPK who is more often than not touted as 'Blogger King' and the likes of Rocky, Haris, Zorro, Malaysia Kini, and some others have had their fair share of readership.
Today, at about noon, Anwar Ibrahim was arrested for what was believed to be his involvement in the alleged buggery of his aide. Shortly after that, I had also received a phone call, inadvertently from Marina (RPK's wife) that they have also received a phone call from their lawyer informing them to be ready for a 'discussion' with the police. Discussion or arrest remains unconfirmed.
But what is possible is that we are seeing the repeat of certain high level 'Ops' that our men in blue is more better known for (as compared to solving cases of missing children, or reports of abuse of authority, or reports of missing government files, etc etc etc).
I will try to get more information as I can and will also try to post some videos if I can get it.
Yewtube has been up and running and until today, there wwas a shortage of worthy news....
So, people, do we 'Padam' the Padam, or do we digress back to out little comfort zones which we are so fond of?

Comfie bolster hugging zone la, what else? These "arrests" don't affect the majority of rakyat wha, so why should they give a toss . . .

As Bpb Marley once sang, "I woke up & all around me they were dressed in the uniform of brutality"

Ever wonder why only 4 cops was involved in a sting operation (sometime during Puasa month last year) in Sungai Buluh against some drug dealers, and 20 Balaclava clad heavily armed Policemen was deployed to arrest one man? Not armed? Or were they afraid that he will kick their ass?
Your guess is as good as mine...

Apa akan jadi pada Malaysia ?
Mundur selepas 50 tahun merdeka.
