Barely two weeks ago, I reported that the Ampang Hills was being threatened with development that had received planning permission to which most residents objected. The Selangor Government had also made it known that all developments of hill slopes in categories 3 (above 25°, below 35 °) & 4(above35°) had been stopped immediately. This was done in the hope to protect the environment. But more hill slopes that are being threatened has come to light, thanks to the casual approval of development projects, both by city & town councils. How an entire hillslope can be rid of trees and approved to build bungalows goes beyond one’s imagination.
The description by an immigrant resident two weeks ago lays truth to the objective of these developers, likening them to drug pushers, putting money ahead of their responsibility! By cutting down the trees that play a role in keeping the slope firm, these agents against the environment are speeding up soil erosion on the slope. What more with the current rainy spells that we have been experiencing, the residents at the foot of the hill cannot be faulted in raising their voices! Recalling the major landslide tragedies in this country, from the
Yet, the City Council of Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) saw it fit to approve this project at the hillslopes of Medan Damansara. For as long as I remember, having grown up in the vicinity, the hill slope bordering Medan Damasara had remained largely green and protected. Right now, its muddy orange, with the entire hill made bare of its green foliage. Don't you just love our civil servants when the objections are finally raised in the local newspapers, they somehow find dault in the developers! Stop work, it seems is the best that they can do! Hoi! WTF was it approved in the first place? Did the developers plant trees for every one that they cut down? havent they heard of green replenishments? One thing for sure is that you can 'plant' a hill slope! or fabricate one to be more precise! MP Lembah Pantai saw it fit to comment, but we really do not need sideshows! We need affirmative action! Don't get me wrong. Its good that she has taken interest, but do we need our MP's to focus on these? I think not.
I suppose, the developer will claim its right to develop its own land as expected, but at what cost? As it is, green tress and foliage is fast shrinking in the Klang Valley, and with the Selangor State Development Body (PKNS) leading in having had the honour to be fined the heaviest for its encroachment into the Bukit Cerakah Forest Reserve, it is no wonder that our very civil servants entrusted to protect our green lungs are being systematically destroyed in the sake of development! Thanks to DBKL too, Bkt Gasing is under threat again....
What do we have to do to protect our environment?
I suggest we look to the ever environment friendly government in Australia for help. Please do something before our environment gives up on us!
How apt that our councils see it fit to do it like this!........this post is in support of Earth Day!

Me thinks we should get a lynch mob & round up all these city hall fookers & hang em up on trees (what's left of em) . . .
Too harsh? Me thinks not.
