What you don't see. . . . What we hope you can see. I made the change in March 2008. Don't ever be told who you must vote for. You decide who your vote should go to. If you are told to support one group from the other, then you know you are in bad company!

Delivering Justice, Renewing Trust
UPDATE: 21st April, this may be old news but this is what the other judges had to say about the Judicial Appointment Committee.......Read Here

That is just what the speech was supposed to be. A special address by the Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was delivered to a roomful of Law practitioners, including former Chief Justice Tun Salleh Abbas as well as Tan Sri Azmi Kamaruddin. The much awaited speech, which contents were carried by The Straits Times was short of an apology much needed by those who were involved in the 8888 Judiciary crisis (8888 depicts 8 of August 1988).
Also present at the dinner were family members of the late Tan Sri Wan Sulaiman Pawanteh, and the late Tan Sri Abdoolcader. Dato' George Seah & Tan Sri Wan Hamzah were unwell and had not made the dinner.
This being the first opportunity for him to address the legal fraternity(after the elections), he recounted how the judiciary, formerly an example and model to other countries, had been scarred from the 1988 crisis.
Acknowledging the perceived corruption and perceived decline of the political atmosphere, PM Badawi added that no nation can be called fair without an independent Judiciary.
Reflecting the cries of some Royals, seen as a call for a judicial renaissance, Prime Minister even recalled the march of the lawyers in Putrajaya, dubbed by some, Th Penguin Walk.
PM also made it known that he did appoint Dato' Zaid Ibrahim, calling the move 'a political leap of faith'.
He also announced the need to prevent abuse by safeguarding the process, and in line with that , the nominating, appointment and promoting of Judges be done through the Judicial Appointment commission, with the prerogative being with the PM to recommend to the King for approval. The process will involve primary stakeholders, and asserts the need to alleviate the current level of remuneration. The need to also compensate those that were involved in the 1988 saga was also addressed. PM then urged the fraternity to move ahead and for all to do their part in order to work together and start a new chapter.
Earlier Bar Council President Ambiga S touched on the need to address the issue of ISA detainees, and hoped that the PM will also undertake to solve the nagging problem.
It can be argued that this is just another smokescreen for the embattled UMNO President, but in reliaty PM Abdullah Badawi had just performed a PR coup de'tat.
Other reports can be found here, and here . Rocky sees Tun Salleh as a giant of a man.
Najib's take on the piecemeal offered.
And one hell of a hilarious 'Photo' and accompanying report....! (Reproduced here in case it is taken off from this official MSM site!)

It's definitely not his first time addressing the legal fraternity. Please check your facts. Accuracy helps blogger credibility.
Just wondering aloud---- why is it that each time he faces the Bar, a lavish dinner is involved?
Could he have spared the rakyat's pocket? After all, lawyers and citizens alike are always willing to march a few KM to his office at Putrajaya, to save him the time and taxpayer expense!
Sweetener? dessert? The little experience I have with 'negotiations' indicate that with Asian cultures, hospitality is a always good strategy.
All this is just talk; I read the PM was given a standing ovation; but for what! Was it not him who hoodwinked the whole nation by his " work with me ' rhetoric in 2004. With him in command, only when we see an independent judiaciary in action, we can believe his words. What happened to IPMC ! So lets not get over excited by this empty talk!He is but a lame duck UMNO President.
sorry tony.renewing trust and delivering justice? tell it to the 20 innocent young and healthy kids who perished in the NS PROGRAM. they didnt live long enough to see justice and trust.
Lee Lam Thye, enjoy your trappings of life. Just wondering how would you feel if the same death fate falls on your kids.
anon 1043,
Thanks for pointing it out, I made the correction, as was in PM's speech (he said it was the first opportunity he had after the elections to address the BAR). As for the lavish dinner, I can't comment as it was the first time I was attending such a do, with the PM addressing.....
a.john,
Like I said, its a PR coup d'e tat from the PM....score some brownie points.....dont you think?

The title of the post is the same title on stage, presumable coined for PM to give him a platform, by who, I don't know. Sorry if you thought I made the statement, I should have put it in iverted commas!
