Apologies

Folks. My sincere apologies. And no, I am not a drama King. Although, coincidentally, my blog has nor been updated since Jeff Ooi was called in by CCID, it really did not mean that I was too.
And No, I am definitely not on the ISA Pick up list.

1. Youtube did not approve the video I sent in, perhaps due to corrupted data, maybe due to the length (but the video beng only 2 minutes in length, I doubt it) I will resend it in again soon, I hope.

2.I am now jobless, and hence 'Lap Topless'.....(to those who have both lap & topless in mind, this is not he same place in Vegas...) As to being Lap Topless, it basically means that I have returned my tools of the trade back to my old company. A great job, but I guess, I did not make the mark, after spending 17 months there. I made some misjudged calls and I am now in the job market again.

3. Updates to Audra's case....Balan, our new lawyer has now managed to get a new deadline for the written submission for Audra's case to the Industrial Court 19. Is now on January 15 2008.
We are still hopeful of some positives, but its just hope for now.

4.Thanks to my good buddy, Zorro, this post comes courtesy of his faithful Dell Inspiron510m....
And hopefuly, I'll be back...soon!

Screenshots Blogger called in to meet Police for taking of statement

Jeff Ooi of Screenshots answering pressmen
Rocky and Nuraina - 3540 Jln Sudin getting more details from Jeff

The Star daily had this on their headlines today. I am happy that the Police actually took action to stop rowdy protesters. But, which one was rowdy? And who was protesting? In other words, the Police took action against peace loving Malaysians who merely marched for human rights. Is that called protesting?
I hate rioters, I had rowdy protesters, but I do support street side picket lines (by Unions who are reduced to doing that simply to have their rights heard) and in this case, marhcers who wished that human rights in this country are not compromised.
To those who thought otherwise, well, you weren't there and you did not see the peaceful marchers. All they did was walk from one place to another. Yet they were attacked! I say attack because, the marchers were walking in one direction, when the police put up a picket line to stop the marchers. Thereafter, a senior officer was seen pointing fingers at the 4 lawyers in the front of the line, as well as a few others. The police officers then moved in to arrest the marchers.
(you can view this here) wysiwyg.....I was there. What is surprising is that some other 'armchair bloggers' gave their different views, which they are entitled too, but not accurate though!

You judge for yourself. As for the header, it says it all, Jeff Ooi was summoned to the CCID (Commercial Criminal Investigation Department) to meet with ASP Tan, of DLL CCID (I can only assume that DLL, means and others...dan lain lain)
Jeff arrived at the CCID office sometime around 1:30 pm, and was accompanied by 3 lawyers, Gobind Singh, Lim Lip Eng and K.A Ramu, all of whom were DAP Legal Officers who offered their services to Jeff. As investigations are still under way, details of the 'Interview' could not be revealed, but Jeff and Gobind had this to say:

(Please visit in a few hours after youtube approval for Jeff's statement)

Jeff Ooi had three police reports made against him a few days after the Bersih Rally. Raja Petra of Malaysia Today had one report against him. It seems likely that the Police are following up on these reports. A significant question posted by Rocky during the brief statement made by Jeff, was "did the police question you on your role as a blogger? 'Independent' Journalist? a politician? A DAP member?" to which Gobind Singh replied, 'As a Malaysian'.

A walk too far....

Walking without Police interference
When the boys in blue steps in . . .

When the bar council announced the cancellation of the People's Freedom walk that was planned on Dec 9th 2007 some days ago, I was most disappointed. Upset because, the Police still maintained their right to 'approve a permit', and the Bar had decided that this walk was not important enough to proceed. I was wrong. I found out today that the Bar Council itself was torn as internally it had both proponents for and against the walk.
(perhaps one should know now that for the past two years, the Bar council had proceeded with this walk with express approval from the Police simply because a junior officer at the council had actually applied for the permit).
Of course, this is Malaysia. When 5 or more people are gathered in a public place, a permit MUST BE OBTAINED! What ballocks! Whilst the federal Constitution allows for the right to gather, it still has to have the approval from the Police! Malaysians who truly believed in their rights did just that. They showed up to walk for all the deterioration that they have seen in today's Malaysia.
From the junction of Tunku Abdul Rahman and Dang Wangi (the former Campbell road) thye walk proceeded with 6 lawyers leading and some 50 odd marchers. A small group of discerning Malaysians. This march proceeded no less than 50 metres before being stopped by a group of Policemen. With a loudhailer in hand, the top ranking officer proceeded to warn all those present about their illegal assembly, and warned that if the group did not disperse, they will arrest on sight. This was indeed disturbing, seeing that the group was only intending to walk towards the BAR Council office.

I am more convinced now than ever that the ruling Barisan Government is adamant in keeping us the rakyat (or part of the rakyat) that feel that there are things that need to be corrected in the administration. Why? Judging from the police personnel and City Council enforcement officers around, it was clear that the Govt. needed all eyes and ears on the ground! There was even an ITIS (Intergrated Traffic Information System which helps monitor vehicle traffic) mobile vehicle to follow and monitor the 'situation'! Sorry, but I clearly read that the ITIS system was formed to disseminate information for the dispersal of traffic. (for that, you be the judge yourself, look at this two ITIS boards along the Federal Highway and find what information is available to us) So, what was ITIS there for? To record 'the march' or what? Tell me. I need to know.
What Traffic Info?
Probably the most expensive 'no information board in the world'
ITIS 'Mobile vehicle - BN Govt's eye on the road!
Is this even legal?

I am more convinced now than ever, that the Barisan Government will go to all odds and length to ensure that those who do have grouses to voice keep their gap shut!
I cannot imagine this sort of Police action in a country like....Australia.
Don't take my word for it, watch the you tube videos I have posted on the arrest of the marchers, and the warnings, despite the march being peaceful and orderly.
The arrest of 8 people (5 lawyers and 3 activist) saw a group of us going to the Police Contingent HQ of Kuala Lumpur to provide support and legal assistance (Haris was with us so we made our way there) . Where do we go from here?

My summary of the morning :
50 odd Malaysians who wanted to walk from one point to another while displaying their banners on Human rights
500 policemen and women (Figures from SP Che Ismail Che Wan) who were mobilised to 'keep the peace'
A nasi lemak stall which made an addition of RM70 from food and drinks sold to blogger
A mamak stall which made an addition of RM60-70 from Media and Bloggers present at the City police headquarters to await for the outcome of the arrest
5 lawyers and 3 activist arrested (one activist for unrelated events and Lawyer Edmund Bon for refusing the City Council their request for the removal of Human rights banner)
80 or more Media personnel
Traffic jams encountered by those who motored into the city, thanks to Police road closures
2 police helicopters
Numerous police Cars and Motorcycles (no FRU trucks and personnel)

Our opinion matters too!

Saffron Sunday . . Get in on it!

Why? What? and how?
like minded Malaysians for a caring society

a candle for our brothers and sisters in need
The participants sharing their inner thoughts
Jonathan sharing with the group
Some chose to sit and share, and share they did

UPDATE: 4 th December 2007

Wimps! Symbolism! And many more names was used against the organisers of Saffron Sunday.
What I got to know later was that there were like minded people all round who partook in this.
These included people in Ipoh, Penang, London, Singapore, Johor, Pahang, and a few others.
From the fourty five people that gathered in Blog House, at least 28 were 'new faces'.

It was an eye opener of sorts for me. We soon lighted our candles and formed a discussion group, and what was evident was that those that came wanted to share their experience. The common ground was that almost all who were there had memories to share. It seems clear that most had fond memories to share of their childhood, when race did not matter. When Ali, Raju, and Lee could do what children would do, mingle freely and share alike.
Where did we all go wrong? How did we go wrong? Why do we have segregation now? Do you and want this?
So what can we do to stop this rot? We can start by telling others what we feel. We can speak out when we are treated unfairly, and it begins here.

Remember yellow Saturday, remember that well. Do yourself a favour, say no to racism, and marginalisation. We will see you in the next do, and bring your friend along. I am sure that your friends do not subscribe to the policies of our government that discriminates from one Malaysian to another. And yet defend their policies....tsk tsk tsk!
